Overwork and exhaustion claims life of a young elephant in Sri Lanka

  • Just for a few bucks, Pleasing tourists has become an issue these days in the travel industry. Recently a teenaged elephant named Kanakota after giving three consecutive rides to tourists collapsed and never woke up again, he died due to overwork and exhausted carrying tourists in Sri Lanka.
  • This incident took place in a beautiful city of Sigiriya which is renowned for its historic monuments.
  • The animal welfare activists are rallying around the place seeking to take action for policy change just after the incident took place.
  • Several animal rights group advocates called out to the government and said that the elephant’s tragic death could have been avoided and prevented. One of the activists also said that it’s a tourist’s responsibility to refuse animal rides.
